Cheap wedding photographer: how to get a good one under £1,000

A full-day digital-only package in the October 2026 survey had a median of £1,500 (n=2,057; surveyed 4 October 2026). The middle half was £1,195 to £1,900. The lower end of that middle half is still above £1,000. A typical full day in this survey is not a sub-£1,000 booking.

Shorter coverage is where quotes more often land under £1,000. A half day of 4 to 5 hours had a median of £850 (n=836; middle half £650 to £1,100). The top of that middle half is above £1,000, so a half day is not automatically under the budget. Elopement or register-office coverage of 1 to 2 hours had a median of £450 (n=511; middle half £350 to £597). Per hour, full-day digital packages sat at £175 (n=1,008; middle half £130 to £219).

An album add-on has a median of £350 (n=734), so a half day plus an album can pass £1,000. About 70% of these UK headline packages do not say whether an album is included (69.9%, n=1,438).

Ways to stay under £1,000 that the survey supports

  • Book a stated number of hours. The 1 to 2 hour median is £450 (n=511). The 4 to 5 hour median is £850 (n=836).
  • Keep it digital only if an album is priced separately. Ask, because 69.9% of headline full-day packages do not say (n=1,438).
  • Ask whether a second photographer is included. The add-on median is £370 (n=776).
  • Compare at least two quotes for the same hours.

What this page will not claim

It will not claim a weekday percentage saving or a cheapest package. Those figures are not in the survey as publishable medians. A weekday wedding can still be worth asking about. The weekday note is about the diary, not a measured discount.

Quality checks that are not optional

Price is the wrong place to save on insurance, a contract, or seeing a full gallery rather than a highlight reel. We do not vet photographers. Five questions to ask and how the request works.

Questions

Can I get a full day under £1,000?

Sometimes, but it is not the middle of this survey. The full-day digital middle half starts at £1,195 (n=2,057). Treat a full-day quote under £1,000 as something to check: hours, editing, and what is missing.

What should I have ready?

Your date, your venue and your budget, plus how many hours you want. That is what the quote form asks for.
